A Marine Corp veteran who suffers from PTSD met his new service dog Wednesday in Yaphank.

“I'm really excited about Rocky,” said Harry Stolberg about his new black Labrador. “I've been looking forward to this for the last 10 weeks."

During that time, Rocky spent time at the Suffolk County Jail in a program that allows incarcerated veterans to work with staff from Paws of War to train a service dog for a veteran.

Sheriff Errol Toulon says he believes the initiative is helping the veteran on the outside and the inmates on the inside.

“It brings a humanistic perspective back into a correctional environment," said Toulon.

For Stolberg, he’s looking forward to many years with his new best friend.

The correctional facility and Paws of War are hoping to train at least five dogs a year.
