The 33rd annual Mermaid Parade filled Coney Island with sequins and seashells on Saturday afternoon.
It drew thousands of people to West 21st Street and Surf Avenue. Organizers say it's the largest art parade in the country and the biggest event of the year on Coney Island.
In addition to costumes, there were floats, antique cars and drill teams.
Even a few rain showers couldn't keep mermaid-lovers away.
"This parade really allows people to let their freak flag fly and it really is a celebration of an old-time Cony Island tradition," says Chris Tsakis, the parade's master of ceremonies since 1989.
"American Horror Story" actor Mat Fraser and burlesque star Julie Atlas Muz were crowned King Neptune and Queen Mermaid. The pair rode in a wicker boardwalk rolling chair that dates back to 1923.
