Longtime residents in the Paterson Houses in Mott Haven say they’re fed up after finding their mailboxes damaged.
For some tenants, getting the mail recently has been a struggle.
"It's going on two months, a broken mailbox," says resident Rosalind Spidey.
They say the doors are completely torn off of 20 mailboxes for apartments 4D through 6G.
It's been a long process that started when they say they reached out to the New York City Housing Authority.
"This first time she said he was out sick, and then he came back, still waiting, and then he said that he finally he said he ordered the piece. That was two weeks ago," Spidey says.
She says she and another tenant have had to spend their own money making the trip to the post office.
"She has a disability, I have a disability. We have to walk to the post office or take the bus to get our mail," Spidey explains.
There is a letter posted at the mailboxes that informs residents to go to 149th and Grand Concourse to pick up their mail, but they say it doesn't tell them they can only go between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Spidey says she and her neighbor have lived in the Patterson Houses for decades.
"We've lived here all our lives. I've been here 63 years. Never experienced nothing like and its unacceptable," Spidey says.
NYCHA released a statement saying, “A private vendor will be visiting Patterson Houses tomorrow to address this issue.”
