The MTA sought public comments at the final public meeting on its plan to raise fares at a meeting at Brooklyn College Monday.
But the authority is only presenting two different forms of hikes to the public -- no matter what, it says fares will increase.
Many residents are angered by that fact. Outraged speakers told MTA officials that the hikes unfairly affect the poorest New Yorkers, criticizing that the added revenue would be spent on projects like the Fulton station rather than improving service and speed.
Others blamed the MTA's deficits on officials and say mismanagement should not be a burden on commuters.
The MTA says next year's hike will be the lowest since 2009.
As News 12 has previously reported, one plan would keep the base MetroCard fare in place but decrease the bonus for buying multiple rides at a time. The other would increase the base fare, but also include a higher bonus.
Residents who spoke with News 12 say the MTA should improve its service and clean its trains to make the higher fares fair.
