Neighbors living near a new traffic light in Kensington are celebrating its arrival.
The light, at Caton Avenue and East Eighth Street, stands just a feet from where a teen died in a hit-and-run accident in 2014.
Mohammad Naiem Uddin was the valedictorian of his class at P.S. 130 and had moved on to Brooklyn Tech. He was killed while walking at the intersection. A 78-year-old woman was arrested and charged in the case.
Representatives from the Department of Transportation joined elected officials and community members to welcome the light and recognize other recent improvements aimed at boosting pedestrian safety.
