New FEMA disaster center opens in Red Hook

The Federal Emergency management Agency (FEMA) has opened a new recovery center in Red Hook, where residents are entering a 14th day without power.

The trailer is offering daily assistance from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. in Coffrey Park, on Richards Street. The agency says it now has 44 disaster centers just like it in three states affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Many neighborhood tenants still struggling to return to normal are living in public housing. The city's Housing Authority says that they will get a rent credit for the days they spend without electricity, heat and running water.
