New public art piece lights up Brooklyn Bridge Park
A new public art piece at Brooklyn Bridge Park is gaining attention in person and on social media.
British artist Martin Creed calls his piece "Understanding."
It features a rotating neon sculpture of the word, "Understanding," that's visible from Brooklyn, Lower Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge.
The Public Art Fund organization, which is presenting the artwork, says it poses several questions.
Is it about a demand for more understanding in the current, polarized political landscape? Or does it celebrate the idea of understanding in a world of diverse communities?
Creed says "Understanding" will remain on display at Pier 6 until Oct. 23.
