The autumn spirit is alive and well in New Jersey as the temperatures cool and the leaves start to change color.
Many New Jerseyans have spent a fall day at Delicious Orchards farm in Colts Neck to try out their pies and apple cider doughnuts.
The farm and bakery are run by the McDonald family.
"One thing I learned early on in this business is do what you enjoy, don’t let the business run you,” McDonald says.
Bill McDonald says that six days a week, nearly 50 employees start their day by baking cookies and pies and the famous cider doughnuts.
McDonald’s four children run the day-to-day operations.
"I think that our dad has taught us how to work a good work ethic, and how family together can make something great,” says daughter Erin McDonald.
Carol Chojnacki has worked at the farm for 50 years. She is responsible for many of the displays seen around the store.
“People ask when do I intend to retire. I always tell them it's not in my vocabulary,” she says. “I don’t know what retirement is and just to be joking I always say I'm going down with a doughnut in my mouth because I eat them all day long."
The McDonald family estimates more than 2.5 million people visited Delicious Orchards last year.
