Police have dropped the charges against a Brooklyn man arrested earlier Tuesday in connection with a shooting that injured an 8-year-old girl in Canarsie.
Gunfire erupted around 6 p.m. Monday after a dispute between two groups of men spilled onto East 83rd Street and Flatlands Avenue, police say. One of the shots grazed a girl's head as she sat next to a friend in a van on her way home from school.
Police say they tracked down 27-year-old Jermaine Larmon after a tip from a witness. They apprehended him at Kings County Hospital, where he apparently went for an injury unrelated to the shooting.
He initially faced charges of attempted murder, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon, but now police say they had the wrong guy.
The girl was in stable condition at a hospital and is expected to be OK.
Investigators have released images of six persons of interest who they say were somehow involved in the incident.
