As students get ready to hit the books, the New York Public Library is offering several free programs to keep them on track during the school year.

The NYPL is hosting a number of free programs to keep students focused in the classroom.             

"We are really trying to impact that summer slide and get kids back on track, focused and excited about reading during this back to school," says Pamela Cora, of the NYPL.

Parents and children are encouraged to stop by their public local library and take advantage of several tutoring programs, reading and writing workshops as well as fun activities for the little ones.           

"During this week you will see homework help and STEM activities that help not only reading and writing, but also math. We will see crafts group discussions, [and a] teen advisory group, which [allows] teens to vocalize what they want to see at their library," says Silva Alemany, of Literacy, Inc. 

At the Hunts Point Library, preschoolers are able to get a jump-start on the basics. 
  
Meanwhile, as students prepare to head back to school, educators are encouraging parents to incorporate reading at home.
