At least three firefighters were injured in a major fire that tore through a pair of commercial businesses in Flatlands Wednesday morning.

The five-alarm fire ripped through E Sushi and the medical office next door on Flatbush Avenue.

More than 100 firefighters were on the scene after the call came in at 6:16 a.m. Officials say it started in the sushi restaurant below the roof and above the ceiling.

It was described as a "stubborn" and challenging fire to extinguish. Eventually, a decision was made to stop attacking the blaze from inside. After four hours, it was under control.

Business owners in the area say they were unable to operate Wednesday since the gas and electricity was turned off.

"I got 48 employees and these people, they want to go to work," says Peter Liberatos, who owns a diner on Flatbush Avenue. "I have no electricity because they shut the gas down. I have no gas either and without gas and electricity, I'm out of business."

The FDNY remained on the scene to keep an eye on any potential hot spots.

Power was still out in the affected area as of Wednesday night.

Officials will determine what sparked the blaze.
