Officials: Brooklyn man drowns off Long Beach
A Brooklyn man died after rescuers pulled two men from the water in Long Beach, officials say.
A Long Beach city spokesman says they were taken out of the water near Edwards Boulevard around 6:20 p.m. Monday.
A third man made it out of the water on his own.
Two of the men were rushed to the hospital. Police say a 26-year-old Brooklyn man was pronounced dead there. The other is expected to be OK.
Authorities did not immediately identify the victims.
Paul Gillespie, head of the Long Beach Lifeguards, says no one is supposed to be in the water after the guards go off duty at 6 p.m. He also warned that approaching storms from the south and west are making the water particularly rough.
Less than an hour later, a Jet Ski accident under the Long Island Rail Road bridge near Reynolds Channel and Magnolia Boulevard sent two people into the water, according to the fire department.

Officials say both were taken to the Long Beach Emergency Room in critical condition -- one in "respiratory distress" and the other undergoing cardiac arrest.
The Long Beach Fire Department says the Jet Ski struck a cement stanchion at the bridge and sent both passengers overboard. A pair of good Samaritans brought one of them to shore on a separate vehicle, and the fire department used its rescue ski to retrieve the other.
