Officials plead for peace after 3 people are fatally shot in Fort Greene
Community leaders are demanding that something be done to put an end to violence after three people were fatally shot in Fort Greene.
As News 12 has reported, the shooting happened at 48 Fleet Walk outside the Ingersoll Houses in Fort Greene at around 2 a.m. on Sunday. The victims have been identified as 43-year-old Calvin Clinkscales, of Queens; 39-year-old Lacount Simmons, of Brooklyn; and 76-year-old Herbert Brown, also of Brooklyn.
Brown's fiancee said the men were all friendly and well-known in the community. She said they were just hanging out when the shooting occurred.
Councilwoman Laurie Cumbo was joined by other elected officials as she urged people to find whoever is responsible and end senseless killings.
"We are here and we are recognizing that we are a united force, because we are not going to tolerate this type of behavior in our community," said Cumbo.
Mayor Bill de Blasio also weighed in on the shooting, urging concerned residents to continue to have faith in the NYPD.
"From what we know, that one incident, it was a group of criminals confronting a group of criminals and that doesn't make it any more acceptable," he said. "It does not reflect the overall situation in that development or the success of applying additional police resources in some of the most needy areas."
Police continue to search for the shooter, who was caught on surveillance video. An investigation into the shootings is ongoing.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
