Monday was the first day of open auditions for a Crown Heights dance competition in which teens are competing to win a large prize.

Organizers say the competition takes after the show "So You Think You Can Dance," except the participants are under 18 years old. 

They say the winner of the competition will receive $1,500 and a chance to showcase their talent on a bigger stage at the Carnival Youthfest on Friday, Aug. 31.

"We're just giving the community opportunities to show their stuff through dance," says Nekia Wise, with Fully Focused Dance Company.

The final night of the competition will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 29.
