The Jewish Community Council and American Red Cross are teaming up to keep families safe following a string of devastating fires in Borough Park.
Dozens gathered Wednesday to learn about fire safety and sign up to get free smoke detectors installed in their homes.
Red Cross officials say making a plan is the first step toward saving a life.
Weeks ago, more than a dozen people were injured in an apartment fire in the neighborhood. And in August, a fire on 44th Street killed two people.
