Police say the body of a baby boy was found in the water near the Brooklyn Bridge in Manhattan Sunday afternoon.
According to police, a pedestrian saw the infant's body around South Street and Dover Street around 4 p.m. and waved down two officers. The child is believed to have been approximately 8 months old.
Police say the child was found laying on an embankment at the water's edge. An officer climbed a safety railing and brought the boy onto a walkway, where police attempted CPR as they waited for EMS to respond to the scene.
The boy was pronounced dead at NY Downtown Hospital.
Police say no parents or guardians were found at the scene.
The child's body didn't show signs of trauma, according to police. The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.
Police say an investigation into the case is ongoing.
