Some Marine Park residents are angry after a $4 million promise was broken, and it turns out the neighborhood might not be seeing any of the money.
Days before losing an election last year, state Sen. Marty Golden announced a $4 million facelift for the playground at Junior High School 278. Nearly a year later, nothing has been done, and the money was never actually allocated.
The Parks Department says it has been unable to verify that the $4 million ever existed for the agency to receive.
For the time being, parkgoers will have to live with the ground ruptures, paint chipping and overall deterioration of the playground.
State Sen. Andrew Gounardes, who took over Golden's seat, says he is working to identify shovel-ready projects that he can secure immediate funding for.
