The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has filed murder charges against a man who was arrested in connection with the death of Newark boy.
Mark Harper, 36, has previously been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after 7-year-old Aydin Brown died while Harper was watching him. Harper was dating Brown’s mother.
Police were called to the home on the 100 block of Weequahic Avenue Monday morning for reports of a sick or injured child. First responders say that they found Brown unresponsive inside the home.
Brown was taken to Beth Israel Medical Center for treatment, but was pronounced at the hospital.
The medical examiner ruled that Brown died from a blunt force injury.
Anyone who may have additional details about the death is asked to contact the prosecutor’s tip line at 877-847-7432.
Harper is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing in New Jersey Superior Court.
