Redesign plans unveiled for Putnam Triangle Plaza
Brooklyn residents are getting an up-close look at what the Putnam Triangle Plaza will look like after a major redesign is complete.
New renderings detail plans for the $3.75 million project in Clinton Hill, which will include more trees and open space for people to enjoy.
The local community board says the redesign will bring more customers to area businesses and increase public safety with enhanced lighting. It also plans to have more opportunities for events and public art displays.
Many have complained that the money could be better spent elsewhere, but the Department of Transportation says funding came from the city as part of the federal government's transportation enhancement program, and therefore, must be used for a transportation related project.
Members of the Fulton Area Business Alliance are pleased with the plans, saying they couldn't imagine a better way to spend the money.
Construction is expected to start in the summer of 2016, with completion in the summer or fall of 2017.
