City officials, along with the Office of Emergency Management Commissioner Joseph Esposito, unveiled a sign in Gerritsen Beach to promote awareness about the dangers of coastal storms.
The high water mark sign was unveiled at Gerristen Beach because it was one of the neighborhoods hit hardest during Superstorm Sandy.
The sign sits four feet high off the ground, showing exactly how high the water came up during the storm.
“I think if you were to talk to anybody who went through Sandy, they may have thought they had a plan, but I think they refined the plan since then and that's what we want to do. We want people to be aware of their surroundings what their potential is and to be ready for it,” said Esposito.
He says the Office of Emergency Management is also constantly planning, and every time there's a storm, it is out there prepared in case another storm like Sandy hits the area.
