The lawyer for a man accused of killing a 6-year-old boy and injuring a 7-year-old girl in an East New York elevator called the surviving witness, now 11, "delusional" and a liar in his closing argument Thursday.
Defense attorney Howard Greenberg went on to denigrate the girl's great-grandmother, prosecutors and the media. He asked jurors for a not guilty verdict and said prosecutors had not proven his client was responsible for the crime.
The girl, Mikayla Capers, identified Daniel St. Hubert from the witness stand during the trial, telling the court he was "the bad man" who stabbed her friend to death and almost killed her, too.
As News 12 has reported, the girl and PJ Avitto were on their way to get ice cream in June 2014 when investigators say St. Hubert attacked them.
At trial, an expert testified that St. Hubert's DNA matched samples taken from the alleged murder weapon.
Greenberg has previously called investigators lazy and accused them of settling on the first lead they found with evidence that he says is inconclusive.
