The community gathered on Sunday to remember a little boy who was killed at an intersection in Bath Beach last week.
Elnur Shavkator, 3, was riding a scooter with his mom at the intersection on Bay 25th Street and Benson Avenue when he was hit by a vehicle on Thursday.
The boy was pinned under the van and killed, according to police.
Elected officials, transportation advocates and members of the Uzbek community gathered on the street where Elnur was killed to pay their respects. The gathering was organized by Councilman Mark Treyger.
The group called for the Department of Transportation to take immediate action and install traffic lights on the street to prevent these incidents from happening again.
The advocates are also calling on the driver to take responsibility for the young boy's death. They say it shouldn't take a death to invoke change.
