A teenager was fatally shot just steps from his house in East New York Tuesday evening, police say.

Police were called to the intersection of Elton Street and New Lots Avenue. Officers say they found Jeremiah Dickey, 19, with a gunshot wound to the head.

Neighbors tell News 12 he was a nice kid and they are heartbroken to hear what happened.

"We just heard three shots and then immediately," says neighbor Maria Monello. "Then immediately the helicopters literally like over my house and so we knew something happened close the house but we didn't know it was Jeremiah until after they put the tape up and everything."
