Students in Crown Heights walked out of school Friday in an effort to take a stand against gun violence.

"Save our streets" was the message as more than 100 teachers and students from Launch Expeditionary Learning Charter School wore orange, the national color of gun violence, and rallied in the streets to raise awareness to gun crimes.

Many of the seventh-grade students marching say they have been personally affected by gun violence.

"It's pretty hard for me to focus knowing that I lost these people and that nobody's taking action to stop this," says 13-year-old Christen Ellis. She says she has lost both her cousin and friend from shootings. 

According to reports, there have been less than 1,000 shootings in 2016, a historic low for New York City.
