People came together to ride and stride in South Brunswick Sunday as part of the 13th annual fundraiser for breast cancer at South Brunswick High School.
The Amy Foundation's Ride and Stride event sets out to assist people who may not be able to afford potentially life-saving breast cancer early detection screening.
"We are here raising money for diagnostic testing for breast cancer for under-insured and uninsured women in the Central Jersey area,” says the event’s executive director, Kim Riemann.
The Amy Foundation began in 2007, and is named after Amy Behar, who died of breast cancer. Her friend and fellow South Brunswick native also passed away a few years later from breast cancer. The 15, 40 and 50-mile bike rides and 5K walks are named in their honor.
The group says it has raised more than $700,000 and has helped more than 3,000 women get early detection screenings.
