Taxi cab drivers elated over fare increase
Brooklyn taxi cab drivers say they are happy about the possibility of earning an extra $20 to $30 a day now that they are able to boost fares.
The New York Taxi and Limousine Commission approved a 17 percent fare increase back in July. Today was the first day drivers could act on the fare increase.
Many drivers who spoke with News 12 Brooklyn said the price of gas was a major factor in supporting the fare increase.
Brooklyn cab passengers had mixed feelings on the increase. Some said this will hurt drivers in the long run, as more people will not be able to afford a cab ride.
The last time the commission approved a fare increase was back in 2005.
