United States Marshals helped deliver a Stamford fugitive to local police after catching him in Haiti more than 16 years after he went on the run. 

They say 39-year-old Frantz Barthelemy fled the country on the last day of his trial in 2001 on attempted murder charges.

Marshals found him in Haiti, where his family says he was working security for the Red Cross, allegedly leading a double life that he began after a massive earthquake decimated the country in 2010.

At his trial, he was convicted of attempted first-degree assault with a gun and carrying a pistol without a permit after he shot at William Regan on Broad Street in Stamford in 2000. 

Regan escaped the attack without injury, and Barthelemy was sentenced to 16 years in prison after he went into hiding.

Barthelemy is being held on a $250,000 bond. He's due back in court next month.
