While taking a walk through the lobby at Vice News headquarters in Williamsburg it's easy to see why it isn't a traditional newsroom atmosphere.
First? It's extremely relaxed.
"Some people may take their laptops and work down here, as you can see, other times they may be at their desk," Communications Director Ian Fried says.
And something's brewing in the break room and it's not coffee.
"So we created our beer and now it's fully stocked in our office and so at any time if you want to come down here and grab a drink with a colleague or a client you are welcome to go to our bar, grab a beer, sit down and have a drink," Fried says.
Drinks aside, Vice is a giant media company with over 3,000 employees including employees around the world.
At its Brooklyn office, most of the news operation takes place in the basement. It's where teams from Vice News Tonight and their weekly news show come up with ideas that turn into news pieces
"I’m part of the climate desk. I am the climate and environment reporter correspondent for the show," 28-year-old Arielle Duhaime-Ross says.
Vice says it considers itself the voice of a younger generation.
"We don't wear a ton of makeup and we are not super polished. I think that makes us more accessible and that makes us feel way more real," she says.
Vice has made Brooklyn their home for close to two decades, and they are expanding around the world.
"Our goal is to always stay in Brooklyn. This is our home, this is where we have grown into the company that we are today," Fried says.
