An altercation between police and a group of teens was caught on camera, and now Borough President Eric Adams is addressing the incident.
Police say the altercation happened around 2:20 p.m. Friday. They a fight spilled over into the subway. Officers responded but some are questioning the actions of one officer in particular.
Adams says he heard some of the men were trying to assault a young woman and that others tried to stop the attack.
In the video, an officer can be seen punching one of the teens in the face. This is a move Adams says is completely inappropriate.
The NYPD claims several of the people involved were resisting arrest, with one attacking officers.
Police say five teens are in custody, including three 18-year-old men, one 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl.
Adams says the officers are street cops, not transit officers, and he believes they weren't trained for this situation. "He took a chaotic situation that police had under control and he almost turned it into a riot situation based on his actions," said Adams.
All of the teens are facing obstruction of justice charges, resisting arrest and more. Adams says he has talked to the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office, which plans to look into the situation.
News 12 has reached out to the NYPD for comment and has not heard back yet.
