Whole Foods has been given the green light to start construction on its first store in the borough.
The supermarket chain was given approval to build in Brooklyn at a Board of Standards and Appeals meeting today.
The 52,000-square-foot store will grow at the corner of Third Avenue and Third Street in Gowanus.
A number of organizations, including the Gowanus Institute, opposed the plan, saying it would change the industrial nature of the area.
Whole Foods says it will begin construction as soon as it gets the necessary building permits.
