Williamsburg cyclists: Cops are taking bikes
Williamsburg residents say police officers have been sawing off their bike locks and taking their bicycles for no reason.
Police say they regularly remove abandoned bicycles from the street to keep the neighborhood clean. Officers insist they only take away bikes with bent wheels, rust or those left chained in the same place for months.
Cyclists say they should be given a warning before officers remove their property. Police say owners have five days to claim their bikes at the local precinct after they are removed.
