One person has died and more than a dozen others were hurt in a fast-moving fire in Flatbush.
According to police, flames broke out just after midnight inside a three-story building at 1434 Flatbush Ave., near Farragut Road. Its first floor housed a church, while the second two floors were apartments.
Police say a 24-year-old man died due to smoke inhalation.
Firefighters are being credited with saving several people from the burning building. Sixteen people sustained injuries, including a pregnant woman, a 4-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy.
Viewer video shows intense flames shooting out of the windows of the building, which was destroyed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. News 12 is told it could have been started by an extension cord and looks to be accidental. No foul play is suspected at this time.
