An elderly woman was killed and a second was seriously injured in a fire at a Bronx apartment Saturday.
Fire officials say the fire was reported around 8:15 a.m. and was confined to the second-floor apartment in a six-story Morris Ave. building in the Fordham section. Officials say a mother and daughter were trapped in their burning apartment.
Fire officials say a 78-year-old woman died in the fire and her 98-year-old mother was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in serious condition. The fire was brought under control in about 35 minutes.
Tenants say the building is not well heated, prompting many to use space heaters. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
