September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and one local group helped get out the word Saturday.

Thousands of men, women and children came out to support survivors and raise awareness for the deadly disease at the Prospect Park Bandshell.

The 10th annual ovarian cancer walk is organized by TEAL, an organization which stands for "Tell Every Amazing Lady about Ovarian Cancer."

"It's amazing to see that something that my mom has created has helped so many other people," said Ashleigh McGregor, the co-founder's daughter.

More than 2,000 people from around the country came out to connect with other families and individuals touched by ovarian cancer.

More than 50 survivors of the disease were called up on stage, one by one, to be honored by the group.

"When you look into the crowd and you see everybody out there…that's the greatest support system you can have," said Jacqueline Dixon, an 11-year survivor of the disease.

The event included a walk, ceremony and run and has raised $3 million over the last decade.

Organizers and celebrity guests say they hope to inspire thousands of women to get tested.
