Police arrested a dozen people Wednesday for their roles in an alleged insurance fraud that included the theft of patient information from five city hospitals.
Attorney General Andrew Cuomo says the operators of two Bronx clinics bribed hospital workers for patient information in order to file more than $1 million in phony health insurance claims. Investigators say the hospital staffers found patients and persuaded them to get unnecessary treatment at the clinics.
A Lincoln Medical Center spokesperson says two employees were involved in the scam. Cuomo's office says the investigation is ongoing and future arrests are possible.
