New Yorkers got a preview of the looming 15-month L train shutdown between Brooklyn and Manhattan this weekend.
The subway line shut down between Manhattan and Broadway Junction as part of a preparatory effort to lay the groundwork for repairs to the Canarsie Tunnel in April.
The tunnel needs to be repaired after Superstorm Sandy destroyed a significant portion of it.
While many commuters braced for a transit headache, some say they didn’t mind the inconvenience – though it may be a different story come April.
Shuttle buses, additional train service and local bus service are available throughout the rest of the day as travel alternatives to commuters.
The L train will be fully back up and operational in time for Monday morning’s commute.
