A two-alarm fire brought first responders to an apartment building on East 141st Street between Crimmins and Beekman avenues.
Officials said the fire started around 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon inside a wall on the second floor of the five-story building.
Kevin Padilla and his family said they were grateful that they got out safely.
“I can stay in the streets,” said Kevin Padilla. “It doesn’t matter, but what matters is my daughter and my mom. That’s what I worry about.”
The FDNY said three firefighters suffered minor injuries.
Officials said residents were allowed back into the building and no one was displaced.
The Red Cross was on scene to help anyone in need. It was not immediately clear what sparked the fire.
