Two women have died and a third is in critical condition after they were struck by a car in the Allerton section of the Bronx. The car also hit multiple other vehicles, injuring at least six others.

It unfolded just before 2:15 p.m. Friday at Allerton and Holland avenues. Sources close to the investigation say three of the victims were family members.

Surveillance video obtained by News 12 shows a white Mercedes-Benz fly through the busy intersection, plowing through a group of people in the crosswalk and hitting multiple cars waiting at the traffic light.

A total of four women were hit by the Mercedes, according to investigators.

According to the NYPD, the Mercedes then slammed into two cars, which caused a chain reaction involving two additional cars.

Many people gathered around the crash site, taking it all in.

"It's a sad result of what happened here. Seeing it in person, I've never seen anything like this in person live, but looking at it is just sad," said an onlooker.

Investigators say the 81-year-old man behind the wheel of the Mercedes appeared to have suffered a medical episode when he lost control of the car.

"We heard the car engine switching gears, so we knew that it was someone speeding," an eyewitness shared.

According to police, two of the women who were struck by the Mercedes, ages 39 and 57, suffered severe trauma to the head and body. They were both pronounced dead by hospital staff.

The third victim, an 84-year-old, is in critical condition as of Friday night.

Police say the fourth victim, a 60-year-old woman, is expected to recover.

The six remaining victims were occupants of the five cars involved in the crash, including the 81-year-old Mercedes driver, according to the NYPD. Paramedics took them all to the hospital, where investigators say they are expected to recover.

All parties involved in the crash remained on scene, according to the police.

No arrests have been made.

The identities of the deceased were not immediately available.
