Car fire erupts along Belt Parkway in East New York, 1 person seriously hurt

A car fire along the Belt Parkway sent flames shooting into the air Wednesday morning, leaving one person in serious condition, officials said.
According to the FDNY, crews responded to a report of a crash and vehicle fire near Erskine Street just after 8 a.m. Video from the scene showed intense flames burning near the guardrail, with thick smoke rising behind the trees.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire, revealing a charred and heavily damaged vehicle.
Officials said two people were injured—one suffered serious injuries, while the other had nonlife-threatening injuries.
One person was transported to Brookdale University Hospital, while the second was being evaluated by EMS at the scene.
Authorities have not yet released details on what led to the crash.
