The Transportation Security Administration has come out with a list of the most unusual finds at checkpoints in 2019, and both Newark Liberty International Airport and LaGuardia Airport made the list.
The agency released the list in a video posted on its Twitter page.
Back on Aug. 19, TSA officers in Newark came across a
pet snake that someone had lost.
The 15-inch ring-necked snake was thin and black, with a bright yellow band around the back of its neck. A child spotted the animal on the floor of the checkpoint in Terminal C.
A TSA officer put a checkpoint bin over the snake so that it could be contained. The lane was temporarily closed while a Port Authority police officer was able to secure the snake and take it away.
On Sept. 14 at LaGuardia Airport, a traveler who was passing through a TSA security checkpoint was traveling with a pair of martial arts sais, which are metal piercing weapons with a central blade with two curved prongs coming out of the handle.
Sais are martial arts weapons and no weapons are allowed through a checkpoint.
