A 20-year-old man is recovering in the hospital after being shot near Washington Square Park after Pride celebrations.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. Monday as police say they were clearing out the park.

The 20-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and right hand near East 9th Street and 5th Avenue. Police confirmed that there were several incidents happening around Washington Square Park, resulting in arrests.

These incidents included a pro-Palestine rally that allegedly clashed with Pride-goers at the park. About 10 summonses were issued for disorderly conduct. Residents say this isn't normal for the area.

“Totally surprised. I’ve lived in New York for over 20 years, and a gunshot in this neighborhood is very shocking. I’m sorry to hear that,” said Amir Cohen.

The 20-year-old victim is in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital. Police are still looking for the shooter. Anyone with information is asked to contact crime stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
