A resident who has lived in her Mott Haven apartment for over 10 years says a recent leak in her apartment is causing major concerns for her health.

Cecilia DePass says she’s been dealing with a water leak in her apartment at 526 East 138th St. for over a month, showing News 12 numerous 311 complaints she’s made about the problem.

DePass says she is scared to plug in any electronics in her home due to the leak, adding that she recently underwent an intense procedure. She says that the smells that have come from the water leak are not helping her health.

“I got an aneurysm in my brain, I got a stent, just had the procedure done,” said DePass. “This is not good, for the water that’s coming down… the smell.”

An agent with the city’s Housing Preservation and Development agency stopped by the apartment while News 12 met with DePass, but she says this isn’t the first time that HPD has shown up and delivered empty promises. She says she shouldn’t have to pay rent if these concerns are not prioritized.

"They said there is nothing they can do… they it's the landlord that has to you do what he needs to do, but he's not,” said DePass.

News 12 has reached out to Denali Management for a statement about the ongoing issues and is awaiting a response.
