Police say a 17-year-old girl was shot in the right ankle in Midwood on Friday.

They say the incident occurred at the corner of East 16th Street and Avenue M when multiple shots were fired.

Bullets and shell casings were recovered down the block and in front of Green Forest Market, according to officers.

“People outside panicked right away, they came to the store,” said Green Forest Market cashier Sunny Khan. “I closed the door right away. We ducked down for a little bit.”

Police say the 17-year-old girl is recovering at Maimonides Hospital.

Two people of interest were taken into custody, but no formal arrests have been made.
