In the wake of deadly shootings in Brooklyn, Assembly Member Brian Cunningham and local anti-violence advocates gathered on Sunday to call for passage of the “Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Act.”

Troy Gill, 13, was fatally shot last month while walking home from a Brooklyn Nets game – an incident that has sparked outrage in the Crown Heights community and beyond.

Cunningham tells News 12 that families on either side of the gun need resources after a tragedy happens. He says the proposed bill aims to create a stable funding source for hospitals and community-based violence interruption and intervention programs.

"Those bullets extend and create a ripple effect that tears apart our communities," said Cunningham.
