A 13-year-old boy was fatally shot Thursday night in Crown Heights while walking home from a Brooklyn Nets basketball game.

Police say Troy Gill was shot on the corner of St. Marks and Brooklyn avenues after watching the Nets game at Barclays Center. He was just two blocks away from his house.

Gill was found by officers with multiple gunshot wounds just before 11 p.m., according to authorities. He was rushed to a hospital but did not survive.

Witnesses say that Gill tried to continue his walk home but ended up collapsing right outside of the Brooklyn Children's Museum.

Officers say they do not know if Gill was the intended target or just a bystander.

This marks the third fatal shooting to take place in Crown Heights this week. One 33-year-old man was found fatally shot in the head on McKeever Place on Wednesday and a Crown Heights bodega worker was fatally shot on Monday night.

Department of Education chancellor David Banks provided the following statement:

"We mourn alongside the entire school community at the tragic loss of this young man - a bright future cut far too short and yet another victim of senseless gun violence. In the wake of this horrific incident, we have ensured the school has the resources necessary to support the entire community, including robust in-school mental health supports, available to any student or staff member who needs it as they grieve."

An investigation is ongoing, according to police. There are currently no suspects in custody.
