A new bill aiming to revamp the way teachers are evaluated is set to be presented to state lawmakers today.

The proposed changes come as the president of the State United Teachers and the state education commissioner seek to address concerns surrounding the current Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) system.

According to the NYSUT, the bill seeks to eliminate the controversial practice of using students' test scores as a metric for assessing teachers. Instead, the evaluation of a teacher's performance would be determined through a collaborative agreement between local teachers union officials and district leaders.
