Families and alumni upset over closing of Flatbush Catholic school

Parents, students and alumni are up in arms over the announcement that a Flatbush Catholic school will be shutting its doors at the end of the year.

"This was like my home since pre-K and now I only made it to third grade and to hear that it's closing down its very sad for me,” said third-grader Arielle Nyleneterri Pierre.
The superintendent of Catholic schools for the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens tells News 12 that St. Therese of Lisieux is closing due to low enrollment.
"They're competing with public schools which we have forever but now in the last few years we compete against charter schools which are virtually private schools that are funded by the city,” said Superintendent Deacon Kevin McCormack.
