Nailah Griffin talks about her mom's legacy after she died at a fire in their Bed-Stuy brownstone earlier this week.

Cheryl Griffin, 77, died earlier this week at a fire inside her Bed-Stuy brownstone at 520 MacDonough St.

Her daughter Nailah says her mother was a civil lawyer, an activist and what some people called "the mayor of Bed-Stuy."

Nailah says her mother was battling Huntington's disease for the past decade, but still kept her loving, funny and vivacious energy.

Although Griffin won't be there for life's big moments and her death is nothing the Griffin family could have ever imagined, her daughter says she believes her mother is at peace.

"I had this great comfort that she went in the space that she loved and cared so much about having and maintaining," said her daughter.

The Griffin family says they plan to restore the home to the best of their ability.
