Overflowing trash is raising concerns among commuters who use the footbridge at the Livonia Avenue subway station.
Residents say garbage often piles up around the three trash cans on the bridge, and many have filed 311 complaints about the dirty conditions.
Some also say poor lighting at night makes the bridge feel unsafe.
City Councilmember Chris Banks, who represents the area, says his office is aware of the issue and is working to improve the conditions.
“We deserve to have trash picked up and apparatus in place that does the proper maintenance and cleaning and removal of garbage,” Banks said.
“And if we’re talking about, you know, containerization, preventing the rats, this has to be cleaned up and it has to be done consistently.”
The city’s Department of Transportation, which owns and maintains the footbridge, said in a statement that crews clean the area as often as possible and respond to litter complaints.
The agency also said it inspected the bridge last week and found the lighting to be working.
