Two men were hit and killed by a car early Friday morning in Sunset Park, according to police.

They say the driver fled the scene, and a man is in custody.

Staten Island resident Juventino Anastacio Florentino, 23, was arrested and is expected to face an arraignment in the coming days.

It happened around 4:20 a.m. at 52nd Street and Third Avenue. Police say the two men—one in his 50s and the other in his 80s—were crossing the street when a black sedan came down Third Avenue and hit them.

Officials say the driver took off, and both men died at the scene.

Moments before 7 a.m., their bodies were removed, but police kept the street taped off for hours afterward. Shoes and what looks like a shopping cart were seen in the middle of the intersection as investigators worked to figure out what happened.

Neighbors say speeding is a major issue in this area.

“Every month, two months—it’s a problem,” one man told News 12. “Accidents or someone getting hit. It’s speeding over here like crazy. That’s the problem."

Transportation advocates say that this particular stretch of road is dangerous. According to Vision Zero, 80 people have been killed or seriously injured along the 2-mile corridor, averaging one crash per month over the last seven months.
